Student to Project Mapping¶
A great deal of time and effort goes into mapping students to projects! Our goal is, of course, to create the best possible matching, however, practical limitations limit us to doing only the best we can manage.
Some of the things that are considered during this manual process:- Sponsor time zone - determines if a project is scheduled for morning or afternoon sections
- each student's declared major / discipline - including dual majors
- Number of students
- in total from each department - the demographics change every semester!
- In total overall
- From each department in each section
- Projects that require US citizens - we typically accept a limited number of these
- Cover letter and resume from each student - but not everyone provides these required items and some have incomplete information
- coursework
- personal interests - if provided
- past internships / coops - if any
- professional experience - if provided
- career interests / goals if provided
- Pre-semester survey - these are fairly short to maximize the number of people who will turn them in
- Staffing needs as captured in the project descriptions - these are only estimates and, unfortunately, are subject to change after the semester starts based on revised sponsor inputs
