Needs and Requirements¶

The Needs and Requirements spreadsheet, available from the Templates page is an enhanced version of the one used for IED. There are some instructions within the spreadsheet within the column headers AND at the bottom of the tab.

Many projects, however, require definitions beyond what can be reasonably managed in this spreadsheet. Industry uses two other key tools, User Stories and Use Cases. While these two tools are frequently important for defining software needs, it may also be helpful for other projects as they help define user interactions. This may be important for projects involving the creation of work instructions, methods and / or procedures where software is not necessarily involved.
