Template Instructions

  • Create a Project Management Forum thread with the scheduled meeting date. Please use that thread for collaboration on this PPT rather than non-EDN resources, e.g., chat, texting, Google, Box, etc...
    • ex: Forums » Spring 2012-Project Management » Client Meeting #1 - 01/18/2012
  • Copy the template document to team's OneDrive
    • Name the file using a “YYYY-MM-DD-Client Meeting.pptx” convention where YYY-MM-DD is the planned meeting date. The files sort easily by date this way.
  • Update the client logo
    • View->Slide Master
  • Update the footer with project name
    1. Insert->Header & Footer
    2. check "Don't show on title slide"
    3. click "Apply to All"

Process Instructions

  • Review the instructions for Creating Strong PowerPoint Presentations
  • Add team's content to the template file
  • Review and Edit your content!
  • Delete all the instructions from file (in blue font)
  • Share your slides with your Project Engineer for review 24 hours before the client meeting
  • Upload final version to Repository for CE visibility and grading

  • After meeting send updated slides incorporating feedback to client to communicate/confirm team's understanding of Project Objectives
    • /working/Reports/Client Meetings

Example time line (in reverse)

  • AFTER meeting email updated slides to client 9/6
  • Client Meeting 10:15am Thurs 9/5
  • Alert PE to location of slides on Repository by 10am Weds 9/4

Meeting Goals

To effectively and rapidly communicate with your Client, Chief Engineer and Project Engineer.
Topics include:
  • Introduce full team to each other (students, PE, CE, & client)
  • Convey the Team’s understanding of the client and the project objectives
  • Gain/confirm/update your understanding of the client’s needs and requirements for your project
    • Empathize with the customer
    • What do they want? Why do they want it?
  • Get answers to team's initial questions about project scope, history, and technology involved

Tips and Tricks

  • TAKE NOTES
  • If you don't understand or recognize a term or phrase used by client - ask for clarification.
  • Take notes (We know we repeated this. It's important).
  • Use numbered list for easier reference during discussion - objectives, questions, etc...

  • Be mindful of Design Lab's Late Policy.

Submission

PPT should be emailed to client before the meeting.
PPT should be committed to the Repository - /working/Reports/Client Meetings
