Late Policy

Due dates and Deadlines are used to assist planning, improve collaboration, and achieve goals. The vast majority of work in Capstone Design is building brick by brick to the end of the semester and the final deliverables of the project. To function as a productive team, bricks must be inserted in sequence and on schedule, or the structure falls down or is delayed.

Capstone rules:

Deliverables

These include Individual deliverables (Benchmarking Memo, DID Appendix, Individual Technical Demo) and Team deliverables (Concept Generation & Selection PPT, System Design Report, Engineering Definition documents - Needs and Requirements, User Stories and Use Cases, Final Design Report & Poster)

  • Due dates listed on Tasks and Due Dates mean 11:59pm Eastern Time on that date.
  • If a late submission is desired by individual students or the team, it MUST be requested from PE or CE 24 hours before due date.
  • Late penalty of 10% per business day will be applied.
  • Late penalty of 50% per for work submitted beyond 5 business days late.

Out of Class Tasks

These include Individual tasks (watch videos, complete safety training, EDN posts to prepare for on-site activities, install subversion) and Team tasks (Team Standards Agreement, documenting your Technical_Progress, preparing slides for Client Meetings, and Managing Your Task Using EDN Issues).

  • Due dates listed on Capstone Daily Agendas mean before the on-site meeting begins on that date.
  • Individual task timeliness are evaluated as part of Technical Progress and Project Management rubric.
  • Client Meeting slides must be sent to client BEFORE the meeting so they can review information and adequately prepare answers for any questions the team has.
    • 10% penalty for less than 1 business day ahead submission to client. For a 10am Monday meeting – send by 10am on Friday AND copy PE on the email.

Exceptions

Project and Chief Engineers recognize that screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.

Leniency may be given for illness, family issues, and other unpredictable situations. But you are part of a team, and team collaboration requires timely communication. "I had another exam" or "I have a track meet" are not situations that sneak up on you. Planning should enable you to leverage the 168 hours you have every week to complete all the work and activities you have signed up to complete.
